Mechanic name: Spending most valuable resource to get more
Mechanic Description: Players can get more resources by spending their most valuable resources instead of holding them.

Implementation description: In our game, money is the most valuable resource, and players can use money to buy different things to help them get more money, such as workers, and factories.
How your pattern(s) relate to the prototype: If players don't spend money, they won't get more money, and we set an NPC competitor who will keep getting money. We use this to discourage players from holding their most valuable resource. And if players spend money to buy things to help them get money, they will get more money than their competitors.
